Quotation request: Use cases
Depending on the circumstances in which a quotation request is made, different parameters must be provided to create a valid document. There are two possible scenarios:
- The customer does not have access to the supplier's catalog item information and makes an open request. The customer provides the item information in one of the two following ways:
- Using
descriptionandnotes. The customer can use the elements on the header and line levels to describe the items or services that they are interested in ordering or provide additional relevant information. These elements are as follows:- On the quotation request header level:
description,notes. - On the quotation request line level:

- On the quotation request header level:
- Using
commodityClassification. The element consists of two properties,typeandcode. The customer provides a category (code) of the item or the service according to the chosen classification system (type). It is also possible to enter any other information usingdescriptionandnoteson the header level andnoteson the line level of the document to further describe the items or services requested.
- Using
- The customer has access to the supplier's catalog item information and makes a specific request. When the customer has access to the supplier's catalog, the items need to be specified in accordance with the catalog information.
In this case, the following elements are required:
- On the quotation request line level:
itemNo,name. Any other information can be supplied in thenotesandcommodityClassificationelements on the line level, as well as in thedescriptionandnoteselements on the header level.
- On the quotation request line level:
The quotation that the customer receives from the supplier in response is expected to contain at least one item for each quotation request line.
