Message identifier and envelope
A message is an envelope that wraps the business documents that you exchange with your business partners.
Message identifier
Each message has a unique identifier that is used for tracking and handling message and document data.
For example, this identifier:
- is created automatically when a message is created with either
POST /messages/create-business-transactionwithMessaging ServicesorPOST /transactions/submit-invoiceand used - for attaching new documents to the message (
POST /messages/:mid/documents) just created, or when - retrieving the status of the message (
GET /messages/:mid) after the message has been handed over.
Message envelope
A message consist of the main business document (core) and supplementary documents which are embedded, attached or referenced.
- Embedded documents are contained within the core document.
- Attached documents' are linked to the core within the same message.
- Referenced documents point to documents hosted on external servers.
Document formats
Core business documents are most often in XML, JSON or EDI formats.
Supplementary documents are commonly in PDF, Excel or image formats.
